How often have you tried to save others and then blamed yourself for being unsuccessful at it?
I know that I have done that quite often and then blamed myself because people chose something else other than what I wanted them to choose, or thought that they should choose!
People have free will, even when you don’t want them to! And they will choose what they want to choose!
