Step Out Of Your History

The great courageous act that we must all do, is to have the courage to step out of our history and past so that we can live our dreams.” ― Oprah Winfrey

Are you still stuck in your history?

Is it the excuse for what you have not and cannot do in your life?

I have met people on both sides of this. Some who have moved beyond some very tough things in their lives and others who are stuck in their past and just don’t seem to be able to get beyond it.

How much are you willing to let your history have power over you?

How much are you willing to allow your history to be the blueprint for your future?

Staying in your history means you will continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. You will repeat the same situations, remain in the same patterns and circumstances. Is that the life you would truly like to have?

What are the stories that you continue to tell yourself and others? I’m talking about the story or stories that contain all of the excuses that you use to explain, justify and defend the choices that you have made and continue making. The stories that create the limitations in your life. The stories that make all those choices right and unchangeable.

Stories about what you can’t do or about the reasons you must continue to do something. Stories about who and what keeps you from moving forward, from reaching your goals and your dreams.

Are those stories true? DO you believe them yourself?

How long have you had them?

What is the value of each? What does each prevent you from doing or keep you doing? What need is each fulfilling for you?

When you tell your story, what comes to mind for you? Perhaps it is the comfort and familiarity of the story. Perhaps it is the need to justify your actions and choices.

Every time you repeat your story and make it real to you, you solidify that story into existence and into reality.

Again, is that what you really desire?

Throw Out The Book

Perhaps it’s time to throw out those story books and create something new and different for yourself!

What if your life was about creating and choosing rather than about your problems or your story? What if you could stop hiding behind your story and instead create something beyond it?

What if you could leave those stories behind?

If you are tired of hearing your story, when you get to the end say “WOW, that was fun!” Usually when you do that you will stop telling that story so much. Often it is because you are boring yourself with it and trying to convince yourself that it is real. So say “I was boring myself to death with that story. You know what? Story sucks! What am I doing? What can I do now that is different?

You can also ask yourself “If I wasn’t telling that story, what would I be aware of? What could I change? What could I be and do?”

You might surprise yourself.

End of story.

Time for something new!
