Toss Away Could Haves Should Haves

Yesterday was TOSS AWAY THE “COULD HAVES” AND “SHOULD HAVES” DAY.

What does that mean? It means:

  • Don’t go through life with regrets.
  • Stop second-guessing yourself.
  • Let go of the “could haves”, “should haves”, “what ifs”, and “if onlys”.
  • Stop wishing you could go back and change events so you can have a different life.
  • Stop making your past choices wrong.
  • Live for the present.

This day, always the third Saturday in July, was created by author and motivational speaker Martha J. Ross-Rodgers. The day is intended for everyone to let go of the past and live for the present. This day focuses on eliminating the thoughts that cause you to choose the past over the future. It’s a matter of making different choices now that matters.

One suggestion for the day is to get a pen and paper and write down your “could haves” and “should haves”. Then throw away the list! Lastly, state to yourself, “From this day forward, I choose to live in the present. The past is history that I cannot change. I can do something about the present; I choose to live in the present.”

My suggestion is that you don’t need a specific day to toss away your “COULD HAVES”, “SHOULD HAVES”, “WHAT IFS“, and “IF ONLYS“. Do it every day! Whenever one pops into your head, let it go and ask:

  • “What choices and possibilities do I have here?”
  • “What choices can I choose today that will allow me to have a life I love living?”
  • “What can I create in my life today that will bring me more of what I desire in life?”

Start living for today without the “could haves” and “should haves”.
