Don’t Let Yesterday Use Up Too Much Of Today
There is a Cherokee Indian proverb that says “Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.”
Do you waste a lot of time lamenting over what has gone on in your past? Or maybe reminiscing about the past as if all of the best times of your life are over?
Either of those keeps you from being present in the now and from creating something new in your life.
It keeps you looking at the things that you “got right” or “got wrong” rather than what you can choose and be now.
You look at the things you “got wrong” because you believe that you must know why you did that, what created it, how you can stop from ever doing it again, etc, believing that if you know every last minute detail that it will prevent you from ever doing it again. However it merely keeps you focusing on it rather than letting it go and moving on.
Conversely, the same is true of the things you “got right.” You focus on them, clinging to them because you finally got it right! You want to make sure that you do that sort of thing again or at the very least that you can continue to bask in the glory and call attention to it again and again.
Both keep you stuck there. Both hold you back. Both can block your view of new possibilities and choices.
I invite you to move out of your past.
Move forward!
Embrace change. Embrace new possibilities and new choices. Step into the future you would like to create.
Take a life lesson from the Disney film: Meet the Robinsons, “Around here, however, we don’t look backward for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
Stop allowing focusing on yesterday to waste time today.
Keep moving forward and keep changing!
