Who Teaches Us To Be Normal?

Who teaches us to be normal when we’re one of a kind?” – Syd Barratt on Legion.

Who does teach us to be normal?

I know when I was a child, there was a lot of emphasis put on fitting in and being normal.

My teachers said I should tone myself down and be more like everyone else or I would never have any friends.

Have you been advised to fit in also?

What did that create for you?

Like me, did it sometimes make you step back so everyone else got a turn first? So everyone else could be made to feel comfortable?

Now, I am not saying that that doesn’t have its place when you are trying to encourage children to take part and learn, but it also can be upsetting and damaging to the children that you discourage from participation.

But then I wasn’t starting on a dissertation of the education system here, what I am trying to point out is that people need to be encouraged to express their differences too!

To allow others to see what else is possible just slightly or considerably off the beaten path of normal, accepted, everyday life.

What if you didn’t have to expend so much energy trying to fit your behavior, likes, and dislikes into the pattern of normal?

What if you didn’t have to judge yourself and everyone else by the accepted normal behavior?

What could you be, do and create then?

How much more creative freedom would you be able to have?

Now is the time!!!

Be weird!
