GPS Of Consciousness
(By Dawn C. Meyer, in the Sedona Journal of Emergence, August 2018)
“Come on just pick ONE!’’ Have you ever been frozen in your inability to make a choice?
Where did that come from? Maybe it stems from childhood, being told what to do instead of being asked what you wanted to do. If that continued too long, you likely just obeyed them and did what was asked of you in order to avoid conflicts.
When you get used to a way of behaving, it becomes automatic and you often get stuck with an outcome you didn’t really want to choose — something you can’t change without being considered a failure or a quitter.
It’s no wonder you don’t think you have choice and possibility in your life. That’s how you were raised.
But, there is another way.
You can ask questions.
Using Your GPS
When you are searching for the things that help you create the life you’d like to have, look at them like the GPS in your car or on your phone. Its use is to guide you.
The various people in your life and your belief systems that you use for guidance may tell you what you should and shouldn’t do. But just like your GPS, they can’t force you to do any of them.
Someone may say, “Take the next right,” but you have a choice. You can take the next right or turn left or keep going straight or stop or anything else, and it’s OK.
What would your GPS do if you didn’t follow what it said? It would merely say, “Recalculating.” It doesn’t just throw up its little electronic hands and say all is lost! It finds you another route; it gives you a different choice. And it keeps giving you more options until you arrive at your destination or you shut it off.
The same holds true for the choices that you make in your life. You are always free to take what works for you from any person or belief system, following some or all of it. You also are free to completely ignore what others tell you and just keep moving on.
And if someone tells you otherwise, then maybe it’s time to leave that system or those people and try something different.
For example: I was driving the other day and an out-of-state car stopped suddenly in the middle of the street in front of me. I could tell that the driver was trying to figure out how to get to a building across the street, but the median had no openings at that point. So, instead of moving forward and looking for another option, he just froze and stopped.
How many people freeze when they have decided that there is only one way to do something?
This driver had decided that the ONLY way to get to the building was from directly in front of it. He was blocked from seeing anything outside this belief. He didn’t ask questions or look ahead and notice the opening just a little ahead of him that would allow a u-turn.
He didn’t consider that he could make the choice to go straight ahead and that an alternate route would present itself.
He could have caused an accident by stopping the traffic flow!
Are you freezing up, stopping the flow in your life by thinking that there is only ONE way possible; operating from the fixed point of view that you have few or no choices?
You’re causing a real traffic jam in your life that way!
Try A Different Route
Granted, using a system where you are TOLD what to do and you simply obey means you can blame something or someone other than yourself if things don’t work out as you had planned. But is that what you truly want?
Wouldn’t you rather have choices? Wouldn’t you rather have possibilities?
Are you ready to start looking for the other openings in your life, and be willing to make that u-turn if necessary?
How about acknowledging that there are many possibilities available if you only take off the blinders and look around.
You can start right now by asking what else is possible that you have not considered. The universe is waiting to show you the smorgasbord of possibilities and choices that it has for you. You just have to ask.
And then choose.
And if that choice doesn’t work out, then let it go and choose again. Keep asking what other choices and possibilities exist that you had never considered before.
Keep that flow moving forward. Ride the waves of choice and possibility.
There is so much freedom in that way of living life.
Go for it!
