You Can Choose Different
“If you knew you had a choice about what kind of life you could be living, would you choose different?” Jackson Kiddard said that, and you know, you DO have a choice!
So often we let our past determine our future. We let our past determine whether or not we CAN do something new. We allow what others have told us is possible and proper determine what we are allowed to do and be.
We narrow our lives down to just a few choices and we make ourselves believe that that is all that is available, all that is possible for us. We make ourselves believe that is all we can EVER do and be!
Then we tell ourselves that that is OK, that that is enough.
What if you didn’t have to live that way?
At the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Olympics, Shane Koyczan said “Don’t let your luggage define your travels.”
Think about it. What if your life doesn’t have to fit into the little tiny box you have defined for it?
What if it doesn’t have to fit in your carry-on luggage and into the overhead compartment on the plane?
What if you can live a life of infinite possibilities?
Wouldn’t that be amazingly wonderful??
Maybe you can’t change your past, however, you CAN change the power that past has as you move forward.
You can continue to carry it and build your future upon it, creating the same problems, using the past as an excuse for everything that goes wrong, for everything that you don’t do, for all the chances that you never take, for continuing to be miserable and afraid.
OR, there’s another choice.
You can be grateful for your past. Yes, it may have been hard and it may have been painful and contain things that you never want to repeat, but it also shaped you into who you are. It taught you lessons. It showed you who has your back and who doesn’t. It brought to light strengths and resourcefulness deep within you that you had no idea were there. Your past brought you to this moment, right now as you are reading this.
Your past does not have to be the bricks and blueprint for your future; it does not have to define who and what you are and will be. It can be a suggestion for what you’d like to have and not have, but it does not have to be the foundation for your future.
The saying “You’ve made your bed now you have to lie in it” does not have to be true. In reality, you are free to leave that bed, check out of that room and get an upgraded suite!
You are free to make new and different choices and leave all the baggage of the past behind.
“Thank you past for all you taught me and created for me AND now I choose something different.”
So, in this new year, are you ready to change how you are living?
Is now the time to step out and launch yourself into something new and make changes and shift the flow of your journey?
You have the choice how you create your future life.
Now is a good time to choose something different for YOU!
