Time To Get Up, Now What?

This morning I was reading an article in the HuffPost News titled5 Things You Should Do First Thing In The Morning To Be Happier All Day (read it here).

I noticed that I am already doing most of the things that they mentioned.

Number 1 is “Pick a wellness habit, then link it to an a.m. ritual you already have”.

I am doing the first item. When I wake up in the morning, I do energy work on myself.

So far so good.

Number 2 is “Get your phone out of your room”.

The only time I have my phone in the bedroom overnight is if I need to get up very early and set the alarm on my phone.

They also suggest that you not have a tablet, computer or TV in your room. We don’t have any of those either. When I sleep in a room with those things, I just don’t sleep peacefully, so I guess my body has been telling me that those things should not be in my bedroom for YEARS!!

OK, the first two are done.

Number 3 is “Talk to yourself”.

I talk to myself all of the time. Some people may say that is odd, however, I have always done it.

I am not doing the part about using my own name when I talk to myself. That just seems weird to me, but then again, what’s really too strange, huh?

I talk to the cats all of the time, so calling myself by name might be OK, I’d have to try it.

So I guess that means I am doing 2 and a half so far.

Number 4 is “… and somebody else”.

I always talk to my husband in the morning which is one of the people they list for social contact. I don’t usually email, call or text others. I figure most people don’t want that before 7AM!

3 and a half so far.

And last but not least, number 5 is “Incorporate gratitude”.

I do this too. Now I don’t journal, however I am grateful for things in the morning. I used to write them down, and it is probably time to do that again.

4 and a half out of 5. That is pretty good.

And it does make my day lighter in the morning. So does dancing in the kitchen, even if it makes my husband shake his head. At least it makes him smile too!

Oh, and dancing with my cats is fun too!

Dancing with my husband?? Hhhmmm, that probably isn’t going to happen first thing in the morning. He just isn’t a morning kind of guy.

So what do you do to start your day?

Is it something that makes you smile? Does it lighten your mood? Does it boost your happiness? Any of those help set the tone for a more pleasant day.

And they can be fun too!

Start your day off right!
